Beginners
& 'Have-a-Go'
Each course
is over three weeks, each session of 3 to 4 hours long
to a maximum of 12 hours as allowed by G.N.A.S. This course
costs £30.00 for adults and £20.00 for juniors (under
18 years of age). On completion, the successful candidate
will be awarded a certificate of proficiency & safety
in basic archery, which will allow them to go to any club
should they not wish to join us, safe in the knowledge
they have a good grounding in how to shoot.
These courses
are run three times a year, March/April, July and September/October
according to availability of instructors. Two months
after completion of any beginners course, new archers
are expected to have purchased their own equipment.
If you decide to join West Essex Bowmen one of our coaches
will accompany you when purchasing your first bow from
a reputable archery supplier.
Once at this
stage you will be entitled to a free continuation course,
designed to familiarise you with your new equipment
and to ease the transition from the beginners bows and
ensure that progress is maintained.
West Essex Bowmen
have a comprehensive range of wooden training bows which
are stringently maintained to ensure suitability for
these courses. These bows may be used for up to one
month after any of the beginners courses are completed
free of charge.
Each year in
June Belhus Woods run a 'Mayhem' weekend and WEB put
on a 'Come-&-Try-It' open to the public. Here you
can experience archery at first hand for a nominal sum.
Past years show that over 200 people 'try-it' over this
weekend and we usually run our largest beginners course
in the three weeks following 'Mayhem'.
Other 'Have-a-Go'
sessions are run during the evenings for Guide &
Scouts groups on an ad-hoc basis throughout the summer.
This can be extended to adult organisations at a moderate
rate for the whole group.
