Competitions

The club holds several competitions during the year, some internal, some open to other archers and some on behalf of other clubs/associations.

All internal competitions are free to enter and are always fun!

All open competitions and those we hold on behalf of others generate money for the club and have kept club fees at the same level further back than anyone cares to remember.

Competitions currently held by the club are as follows:

Indoor champs – normally held in March at Gaynes school Upminster (7:30 pm start).

Round:
Andy Harris (3 dozen arrows at 15 yards on a 40cm target). Same round for all ages/genders, but prizes awarded in four categories (Lady/Gent/Junior Boy/Junior Girl).

Mid summer American – normally held in July on a Sunday.

Round:
American (thirty arrows at 60 yards, thirty arrows at 50 yards and thirty arrows at 40 yards).

Club Championships – Normally held at the end of August.

Rounds:
Gentlemen shoot a St George (3 dozen at 100 yards, 3 dozen at 80 yards, 3 dozen at 60 yards).
Ladies shoot an Albion (3 dozen at 80 yards, 3 dozen at 60 yards, 3 dozen at 50 yards).
Juniors shoot the 9 dozen round (Windsors) applicable to their age and Gender (see rounds table via the GNAS link shown later in this document).

There are several prizes to be won, not only for the best Lady/Gent, Junior Boy/Girl, but also a handicap scoring event and for the best novice. This means that even if someone decides to shoot a shorter distance round for their age/gender, or if they are new to the sport, they can still win an award.

Bent Stick championships: August/September.

Entrants must use a one piece wooden bow with wooden arrows.

Round:
Gents – Western (4 dozen at 60 yards and 4 dozen at 50 yards)
Ladies – Short Western (4 dozen at 50 yards and 4 dozen at 40 yards)
Juniors – Appropriate Western round for their age/gender.
No separate prizes for age/gender, 1st, 2nd and 3rd only.

Dartchery – annual fun event usually held in June where we use club bows and arrows with no sights. Barbeque also provided, just bring your own things to cook!

Agincourt shoot - annual fun event held as close to October 14th as possible (Agincourt day) where bows with no sights are used and you shoot under command (Nock/Draw/Fire). You fire at a French flag to score points.
